Puzzling Moves Tangram

The Puzzling Moves Tangram is a 4'W x 8'L, 7-piece tangram that will have your students problem solving and communicating on the move in their attempt to reproduce the visual challenges you present them. Students seek to replicate animals, or other designs, through the geometric juxtaposition of the rubber-like polygon mats. A 4' x 8' section of non-slip, rubber matting is die-cut into 7 polygons. One of the most energizing activities begins by breaking your students up into 3 groups, A, B and C.

1.The activity begins with the members of team A running with one tangram piece per trip to Group B and piling them in a heap. The last member across brings the design diagram. When the delivery is over, Group A runs back to their start position to wait. They began the activity with delivery and will end it with assembly.2.Group B must accurately assemble the Puzzling Moves pieces into the design on the paper. When complete, they have to memorize what they've done and then deliver the tangram to Group C, just as Group A did to them, bringing the tangram design over last.

3.Instead of returning to their positions, Group B remains with group C, who, instead of replicating the design from the sheet, must construct it based on the verbal instructions from Group B.

4.Once complete, Group C does exactly what Group B did, they break the design down and deliver it one piece at a time, back to Group A. Like B did for them, C provides verbal instructions and cues to A, to help them accurately replicate the design.
