Administration guidelines

Students are to collect five cases of real survey data for the lab report.  In the first lecture (Week 1), you will be provided with five blank surveys (The University Student Motivation & Satisfaction Questionnaire version 2 (TUSMSQ2)).  If you miss Lecture 1, pick up copies from the psychology admin office (3B25) or download a copy of the survey (.doc) and print to make your own copies.

Complete one survey yourself and administer the other four surveys to students on campus prior to your Week 1 or 2 tutorial.  Please following these guidelines:

  1. Only approach people during daylight hours outside the library or in the refectory, HUB or central grassed area.
  2. Systematically pick every nth person who walks past or who you come across - do not just pick whoever you like.
  3. Introduce yourself and your purpose.
  4. Have clipboards (or something to lean on) and pens available.
  5. Ask whether the person is a current UC student and whether s/he would be interested in participating in a survey about university student motivations and satisfaction as part of a psychology class exercise.
  6. Record the number of refusals.
  7. If the person is interested, explain that the survey is voluntary, confidential and would take approximately 15 mins of their time.  Direct the person to read the instructions and complete the questionnaire.
  8. When the person is finished, quickly check over the pages to ensure it is all complete - ask them to complete anything they missed.
  9. Thank them for their time.
  10. Report any problems to the unit convener.
  11. Bring the completed surveys to your first tutorial.  If you miss this tutorial, follow the instructions for entering your data.
  12. Submit your entered data by 2 Mar, Fri 5pm otherwise you will incur a 10% (4 out of 40) mark penalty on your lab report.
